ATC waives off terror charges against Mohsin Baig

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday waved off terror charges against senior journalist Mohsin Baig and moved the case to a local session court.

Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan ordered suspects to appear before a session judge on June 24. Baig’s counsel Latif Khosa maintained that his client acted on self-defence as Federal Investigation Agency personnel raided his home without a warrant.

The Federal Investigative Agency’s cybercrime wing arrested senior journalist Mohsin Baig in a raid at his residence. The sources clued in on the developments informed that an FIA member was injured in an exchange of fire during the raid.

Baig, earlier, appeared in a talk show at a private news media outlet where he leveled veiled allegations on the personal life of Prime Minister Imran Khan. A social media campaign began on his statements, prompting reactions from the government and opposition leaders.

More police contingent had been called at Baig’s residence to arrest his son, said sources. The journalist was shifted to Margalla police station and the Islamabad police registered a terrorism case against him.
