Balochi Fish Fried & Grilled Recipe

Ingredients

Prepare Balochi Fish:
1. Sabut dhania (Coriander seeds) 2 tbs
2. Zeera (Cumin seeds) 2 tbs
3. Methi dana (Fenugreek seeds) ¼ tsp
4. Saunf (Fennel seeds) 1 tbs
5. Namak (Salt) 1 tsp or to taste
6. Lal mirch powder (Red chilli powder) 1 tbs or to taste
7. Chaat masala 1 tsp
8. Haldi powder (Turmeric powder) 1 tsp
9. Baisan (Gram flour) roasted 2 tbs
10. Whole fish (Mushka) clean 750g (3 pieces)
11. Cooking oil for frying

Prepare Imli Tamatar ki Chutney:
1. Tamatar (Tomatoes) 3 medium 
2. Podina (Mint leaves) handful 
3. Hari mirch (Green chillies) 6-7 –
4. Adrak (Ginger) 1-inch piece 
5. Zeera (Cumin seeds) ½ tsp 
6. Kala namak (Black salt) ¼ tsp 
7. Gur (Jaggery) 1 & ½ tbs 
8. Namak (Salt) ¼ tsp or to taste 
9. Imli pulp (Tamarind pulp) ½ Cup 

 

Directions

Prepare Balochi Fish:
1. In a spice mixer,add coriander seeds,cumin seeds,fenugreek seeds,fennel seeds & grind to make powder.
2. Add salt,red chilli powder,chaat masala,turmeric powder and gram flour,grind well & set aside.
3. Make an incision on the dorsal side of fish with the help of a sharp knife & make cuts into the flesh of the fish on both sides.
4. Sprinkle prepared spice mix inside and all over the fish & rub evenly (reserve remaining for later use) and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
5. Option # 1: Frying -In a wok,heat cooking oil and fry fish on low flame from both sides until golden brown & crispy.
6. Option # 2: BBQ/ Grilling -Grill the fish on burning charcoal until golden brown,basting with cooking oil and sprinkle prepared spice mix.

Prepare Imli Tamatar ki Chutney: 

1. In a blender jug,add tomatoes,mint leaves,green chillies,ginger,cumin seeds,black salt, jaggery,salt,tamarind pulp & blend well. 
2. Garnish with lemon slice and sprinkle chaat masala. 
3. Serve Balochi fried fish with imli tamatar ki chutney!

5. Boneless fish ½ kg (2 inch pieces)
6. Adrak lehsan paste (Ginger garlic paste) ½ tbs 
7. Lemon juice 2 tbs -Lal mirch (Red chilli) crushed ½ tbs 
8. Zeera (Cumin seeds) roasted & crushed 1 tsp 
9. Namak (Salt) 1 tsp or to taste 
10. Paprika powder 1 tsp 
11. Anda (Egg) whisked 1 
12. Maida (All-purpose flour) 4-5 tbs 
13. Cornflour 3-4 tbs
14. Chicken powder 1 tsp 
15. Safed til (Sesame seeds) roasted 2-3 tbs 
16. Sirka (Vinegar) 1 tbs 
17. Safed til (Sesame seeds) roasted 
18. Cooking oil for frying 

Directions:

1. In a bowl,add fish,ginger garlic paste,lemon juice,red chilli crushed,cumin seeds,salt,paprika powder and mix well,cover & marinate for 30 minutes. 
2. Add egg,all-purpose flour,cornflour,chicken powder,sesame seeds,vinegar & mix well.
3. On each fish piece,sprinkle sesame seeds. 
4. In a wok,heat cooking oil & fry on low flame until golden brown. 
5. Serve with green chutney or tomato ketchup.
