Dua Zehra case: Girl asserts “no abduction”, SHC orders her custody to shelter home

KARACHI: The missing teenager Dua Zehra on Monday presented before the Sindh High Court (SHC) along with her alleged husband where she asserted that she willingly tied the knot with Zaheer Ahmed.

Dua Zehra was recovered from Bahawalnagar on Sunday in a joint operation by Karachi and Punjab Police. The police rescued her and arrested the husband Zaheer along with the facilitator.

At the outset of the hearing, Dua informed the court about her cast and her age while maintaining that she got married to Zaheer Ahmed out of her will and was not abducted.

Upon asking, the teenager also replied to the court that she wants to continue living with her husband and refused to stay with her parents.

Dua Zehra presented before SHC that she is not willing to meet her parents on which her father maintained that the girl should be given in the custody of Darulaman (shelter home).

The court ordered her custody to be given to shelter home and directed to submit medical report in regards to determine her age.

The hearing was adjourned till June 8.

Notably, the girl went missing in April and was later recovered from Lahore allegedly married to Zaheer Ahmed.

Initially, an abduction report was registered for the girl who later maintained in a video message that she left her residence willingly to tie the knot with Zaheer.

However, the father of Dua, Mehdi Kazmi, claimed that the girl is underage and pleaded with the court to rescue her daughter. The court ordered Sindh Police to present the teenager in the court otherwise no proceeding will be carried out.

In this regard, upon delay in the recovery, Acting IG Sindh was also asked to stop working. However, after a number of raids in many areas, the alleged couple was recovered from Chishtian.
