ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed local body elections in Islamabad, reported BOL NEWS.

ECP released an important statement in Islamabad High Court (HC) where it was stated that they will make new constituencies then the schedule of by-elections will be provided.

As per details, Islamabad High Court hears a petition seeking a settlement of elections without increasing the number of union councils. While the court has ordered the federal government to co-operate in by-polls.

According to the sources, the Election Commission will announce the election schedule by making new constituencies in 60 days. In a statement, it was claimed by EC that the government is obstructing local elections. Whereas, the court has directed the federal government to fulfill its constitutional responsibility for the elections.

Notably, the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court said that petitions to prevent elections have become ineffective.

Previously, after the demise of Awami National Party (ANP) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Waqar Khan, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the new dates for by-elections in the constituency of PK-7.

As per the details, in the upcoming by-elections, the documents of four candidates have been selected for the elections in PK-7 SWAT. Nawab Khan of ANP, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI)’s Fazal Maula, Daulat Khan from Tehreek e Inquilab Movement (TIM), and a former PTI member Muhammad Ali Shah as an independent candidate will contest the by-polls.
