MULTAN: Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehkreek-Insaf (PTI) Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi talks to the media regarding the Punjab budget on Wednesday.

VC Shah Mehmood claimed that the provincial finance minister remained at loss to present the budget for the fiscal year 2022-23.

He opined that it has been the first time that the session was held under the lead of Deputy SPeaker although the Speaker was present in the House and questioned the unconstitutional steps of the governors.

He asked the Punjab government to reconsider its decision. He added that the issue is that the House wanted an explanation from the Chief Secretary and IG Punjab on what happened on May 25.

Previously, the tussle between the treasury and opposition benches in Punjab Assembly has caused the postponement of the budget session, and the budget could not be presented in the assembly.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi postponed the session till 1 pm on 14 June.

After the success of talks between the opposition and treasury, the session commenced after several hours of delay but the Opposition benches again started protesting against the presence of Punjab government spokesperson Attaullah Tarar in the assembly, as he is not a member.
“We will not let the budget be presented till [Chief Minister] Hamza Shahbaz is present in the house, while the inspector-general and chief secretary are sitting in the gallery,” the Opposition said.
