Former governor Ishrat ul Ebad urges President Alvi to diffuse political tension

Former Sindh governor Ishrat ul Ebad extended an appeal to President Dr Arif Alvi to play his role in diffusing rising tension in the political sphere.

The former governor on Tuesday contacted the president over the telephone.

Ishrat ul Ebad said in his tweet, In the prevailing circumstances, “I have spoken to President Arif Alvi @ArifAlvi and have appealed him to play his role to diffuse the rising tensions in Pakistan.”

He added that the economic situation in the country could not sustain prevailing circumstances. “The economical situation of Pakistan cannot afford such deterioration,” he wrote.

The former governor asked Arif Alvi to create a dialogue between all political parties to ensure that Pakistan Army and judiciary are not dragged into political discussions.

He went on to say, “As President, he is the supreme commander of the armed forces and has a constitutional role to maintain the dignity and sanctity of these institutions.”

The tensions between the incumbent government and President Arif Alvi have escalated after the removal of Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema.

On Monday, Shehbaz Sharif-led government sent a third summary for the removal of the governor which was turned down once again by the president.

However, the cabinet division issued a notification around midnight and denotified Cheema.
