ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari underlined Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China by expediting the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Foreign Minister was speaking at the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative’s High-Level Meeting, which was conducted virtually in New York.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised China’s decision to develop GDI in his video message, describing it as a beneficial platform for accelerating and coordinating efforts toward the achievement of universally agreed Sustainable Development Goals.
He voiced profound worry over the reversal of progress in the achievement of the SDGs, recalling the various challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and geopolitical changes, all of which have disproportionate and catastrophic effects on the Global South.
He called upon the Global Development Initiative Group of Friends to solve the developing world’s problems.
The Foreign Minister also urged the international community to mobilise sufficient resources for the SDGs and to fulfil its pledge to provide at least $100 billion in climate funding yearly.
