Quetta, previously known as Shalkot is now acclaimed as an important tourist point for many reasons. Quetta is known as the fruit basket of Pakistan as it produces plums, peaches, pomegranates, apricots, apples, melons, cherries, pistachios, and almonds. The high mountains of Quetta produce Saffron and it is grown for commercial purposes. Three big Bazars of Quetta are the point of attraction for tourists as they can buy cultural articles and dry fruits at low prices. These are Suraj Ganj Bazar, Liaqat Bazar, and Kandari Bazar. Famous Hanna Lake is a manmade water reservoir in the outskirts of Baluchistan and is a picnic spot. Quetta fort also known as Quetta Qilla was built by British army in 1867 for strategic military use and now is a tourist point. Ziarat is another important tourist destination. It is a hill station and a holiday resort if you are visiting Quetta; do not miss the heavenly place of Ziarat. Liaqat Family Park and Fatima Jinnah Family Park and Linjo Water Park are also outstanding tourist points of Quetta.
