Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh lauds SECMC’s progress on Thar Coal Block II

KARACHI: Provincial Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh has appreciated the work being done by the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) at the Thar Coal Block II, an official of the SECMC said.

“The minister along with a delegation after visiting Thar Coal Block II project appreciated the diversity and inclusion approach of SECMC and pledged support to the company’s safety standards and the employment opportunities it is generating for the local populace,” SECMC’s senior media manager Sheeraz Mohiuddin said.

The minister, also the chairman of the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) and the Thar Foundation, was accompanied by the members of the provincial assembly Qasim Siraj Soomro and Zia Lanjar, while Senator Gayanchand, special assistant to the chief minister Veerji Kolhi and deputy commissioner of Tharparkar Muhammad Nawaz Soho, were also present on the occasion.

SECMC chief executive officer Amir Iqbal welcomed the high-level delegation, along with the vice president of the Human Resources and Administration, Zeeshan Khan, site director Zia Haider and the general manager CSR, Public Affairs and Communications at SECMC Naseer Memon.

The delegation appreciated the progress on the SECMC mining project at Thar Coal Block II, where they met the diligent women dump-truck drivers, the women RO plant operators and the local Thari engineers and other employees, being professionally trained by SECMC.

They also visited the Thar Foundation Hospital and the Thar Foundation Primary School, established at village Maan Singh Bheel, where the delegation distributed certificates among the best students.

The extensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) work by SECMC was also appreciated, along with the efforts for resettlement of the displaced people.

Iqbal expressed gratitude to the provincial and federal leadership for their precious time and support given to this project.

He assured the minister that SECMC will continue to maintain the highest standards of health safety and environment (HSE) and operational performance.

Every stakeholder of this project is committed to ensure a positive impact on the national economy, while transforming the lives of the local communities.
