On Wednesday, a Chinese government official warned the US government against actions that contradict the one-China principle.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, made the statements in reaction to a recent amendment to the US Department of State’s “Taiwan fact sheet,” which deleted language opposing “Taiwan independence” and admitting China’s view that Taiwan is part of China.
According to Zhu, certain persons in the Taiwan region are exaggerating this issue in order to gain US support for independence. “Such a move will have no effect on Taiwan’s status as a Chinese province.”
She also asked the US administration to follow the one-China concept and implement the provisions of the three joint communiques between China and the US.
